Josif Shamli’s workshop “Being an actor in a Shakespeare spectacle” will take place on November 8th, 2014, at 2.30 pm in Vlaykova cinema.

Short content of the topic:
1. What to concentrate on when beginning work on a Shakespeare’s play.
– Additional information, related to the topic and the plot of the text /the necessary common culture of the performer/
– Primary research on the parameters of the genre
– The translation – general information on the other existing translations
– Accurate analysis of each character’s actions, juxtaposed with the ultimate goal set by the director
– Good articulation and the correct logical accents in metred speech
– The role of Mise en scène and how it serves the logic of characters’ actions
– Political and historical facts in Shakespeare’s plays and how they influence the analysis of the action
2. Short introduction of Aristotle’s idea of equality of thesis in tragic text, as well as a word on Shakespeare’s comic characters.
3. Comparison between contemporary text and its plot relationships and a Shakespeare play of choice and its plot relationships / “August: Osage County” by Tracy Letts and “King Lear”/ .
4. Is it possible to build up a full psychological portrait /image/ in Shakespeare’s spectacle.
5. Over interpreting the text /pros and cons/.
6. 450 years separate us from Shakespeare’s time, to what extent we have changed as people and which values of the past are still valid
7. The freedom of being ourselves within the classic text
