SPECIAL PARTICIPATION
10.40 – „COOL!“ by Juliya Piskuliiska
The play is performed by English Drama/ Musical at American College of Sofia, special guests of the festival.
COOL! Is a libretto of a musical, written by the 15-year-old Juliya Piskuliiska. It is inspired by the undying “Romeo and Juliet” and “Westside Story”. The action takes place nowadays, at the imaginary school West Side High. It tells the love story between Tony – who used to be the leader of the school gang “the wolves”, and Maria – who has just moved to that school from Canada. The musical looks at the dramatic events following their love, the clashes and conflicts of the main gangs at the school – “the wolves” and “the riders” – a result of their pointless supremacy battles.

COMPETITION PROGRAM
12.00 – „That is an advertisement” – Theatre atelier „Tatous”, 33rd Language High School “Saint Sofia” and 33rd Elementary School „Saint Petersburg”.
The play is based on etudes created by the students themselves. It develops the idea of the besetting commercials and the lack of education these days. The first part of the play is made in the year 2008 and wins the audience award from the Francophobe’s school theatre “Jean-Louis Barrault” 16th edition, while the second part is awarded with the first prize at the 17th edition of the same festival. Afterwards, it wins first place at the Festival of school theatres in Istanbul, Turkey among 29 other participants. The play has been performed in French and Bulgarian, and a third, English part, is soon to be realized.
13.40 – „Comedy of errors” by William Shakespeare – Theatre studio “Smehurko”, Sofia Children Center – branch Bankya and 78th High School (SOU).
The play follows Shakespeare’s text, all costumes and stage sets are created by the participants.
15.10 – „The Wheat Bap” with the participation of duet “Rukatka”, Sofia High School of Bakery and Confectionary technologies.
The play is created with the aim of introducing the Bulgarian traditions, rites and rituals to the youth in order to preserve them for the future generations. The focus is on the rituals from the winter cycle – “Koleda”, ”Babinden” and “Trifon Zarezan”. The old-time costumes and the stage set as a traditional Bulgarian odaya, decorated with the trousseaus from the women’s dresses contribute to the authentic atmosphere. On Christmas Eve, the action takes place around the table, with the ritual breads and characteristic parables and songs. The scene ends with welcoming “koledari” and their blessings. On “Babinden” we transit to the house of the grandmother, where a newborn is bathed, new brides are welcomed and secrets for fertility and health are shared. The celebration ends with “valchuvane” of the grandmother to the river. “Trifon Zarezan” represents the vine cut-out at the house of the host and the blessings for health and fertility.

17.00 – “Suburbia” by Eric Bogosian – thetre studio Mask within Sofia children center
The play tells of the life of 5 youngsters, who live in the suburbs. Gradually, their principles and attitudes toward life are revealed. The appearance of an old acquaintance puts the characters in complicated and unexpected situations, which draw them to an outburst of suppressed emotions, feelings and actions. The actors represent seven distinctive types of youngsters, each and every one with their good and bad sides. The play provokes thought of the future of young people, of their ideas of the world and perspective towards life.
